George Mallory, the pioneering British explorer, h George Mallory, the pioneering British explorer, hoped to become the first man to reach the summit of Mount Everest. In 1921 he joined the British Mount Everest reconnaissance expedition, and from that point on, climbing became the most important thing in Mallory’s life. He attempted the climb several times, but on what would have been his last attempt in June 1924, he vanished. His body was found 75 years later, and yet it is still not known if he made it to the top. His climbing partner, Andrew Irvine, was never found, but some are hopeful that, if found, the camera he had with him might hold the clues as to whether the pair reached the top. Pub Stories ~ the Church Inn, Mobberley ✨ When Pub Stories ~ the Church Inn, Mobberley ✨ When Tim & Mary took over the Church Inn in 2012, it had fallen on hard times. It had been owned by Punch Taverns, was leased out to various people, and eventually ended up shutting down. In late 2012, Tim & Mary bought it, and opened it in June 2013. They decided to do things differently from their nearby @bullsheadmobberley. The Grade II listed building has small dining rooms which gave it a cosy and intimate atmosphere, and it certainly has a special aura you can’t describe ✨ The food was always designed to be quintessential British, but slightly elevated. Foams and smears were never it’s thing - it was local produce, exceptional cuts of meat, and seasonal ingredients done well. The key was always ‘flavoursome cooking’. Today, our little country pub is a thriving, busy place where great food, drink, atmosphere, and people combine to create an unforgettable experience. We are so very proud of how far this wonderful British pub has come! A wine with a chequered past: introducing Barolo 🍷 Barolo can often be mistaken for a Pinot noir in the glass because of its light colour. It is a bit of a controversial wine because its origins are sweet and light… but that has firmly changed and it is a truly special wine. SO WHAT IS BAROLO WINE? It is a dry red wine made from the Nebbiolo variety of grapes. This is a thick-skinned grape which grows in a variety of conditions. The controversy of Barolo comes from the different methods of fermentation used to make this wine - those who use traditional methods and those who prefer modern methods. No one seem to be able agree to the best way to make this wine - and thus is often referred to as the ‘Barolo Wars’! ❌ Let’s talk about this particular Barolo… As Barolos go, you won’t find a better example than this one for the price 🍷🤩 With light oak, vanilla notes, chocolate, cherry, cinnamon, and red fruits, this is a great ‘cellar red’ which gets better and better the longer it sits in our cellar! Origin: Piemonte, Northern Italy 🇮🇹 Price: £52 Pair with: Game meat, mushrooms, beef, and cheese.
